Taurus medicine is slow. Steady. Solid. Stubborn. Taurus knows how to be an anchor. For everyone else. For every budding project. For every burgeoning thing.

Taurus isn’t going anywhere.

It knows that right here is the place to be. It knows how to attract good things to it. Ruled by Venus, this sign reigns supreme in fertility. Generosity. Warmth. Ability to magnetize what it wants. Taurus knows that there is great beauty, wisdom and abundance to be experienced when we learn how to let things live. In their own way. In their own time. Taurus has the patience of the Cosmic Parent. Able to love with great awareness of the time it takes to learn life’s lessons. It feels no need to rush its children, friends, lovers or self. It knows there is no “there” to get to.

Only this moment to enjoy.

Taurus is a medicine much needed when overwhelmed. Anxious. Nervous. Insecure. It reminds us to find something simple to anchor our life in. Skin on skin. Honey on lips. Hand in hand.

Taurus reminds us to find some simple pleasure to worship. The sway of a tree branch. The sway of a hip. The act of being swayed by love in all its forms.

Taurus teaches us that anything we wish to bring into form benefits greatly from a little more of our presence. A little more of our attention. A little more patience for its process.

The moon, exalted in Taurus, is comfortable. Cozy. Concerned with securing its needs and producing what can create nourishment for the multitudes.

This full moon sends a trine to Pluto, reminding us of the power of laying one brick at a time. It also sends a sextile to Neptune, encouraging us to connect to something larger than ourselves.

The ego is constantly trying to convince us that we are in control. That we are in this alone. That we are at the center of all things. But this full moon asks us to remember to share our problems so that others can share their solutions.

Who or what holds your problems with you? What great force of creativity, generosity and spirit can you call on when life gets overwhelming? How can you remind yourself that you are not in this alone? That solutions are constantly seeking you through others. Through meditation. Through movement. Prayer. The power of nature.

This world’s pain is too much to hold on our own.

The boons of this full moon encourage us to validate what in our lives is sustainable. What is an eternal, steady source of nourishment. What rock do we have to lean on and how can we remind ourselves to lean on it.

On the same day as the full moon, Venus, the ruler of this full moon, ends up in a stark opposition to Uranus. This is the same point at which the last new moon occurred. This lends a slightly discordant tone to the day. One that asks us to do something differently than we usually do. Taurus can get stuck, sloth-like, and stubborn to the point of its own demise. Venus’s opposition asks us to break from the rhetoric that impedes our creative intelligence. So that we are constantly orientating ourselves towards what is possible. What is seeking us. What is awaiting our attention.

We cannot hold the world on our own, but we can hold one tiny and incredibly significant part of its becoming. The full moon asks us to slow down enough to reconnect with that truth.

A Quiet Sense of Freedom by Sarah Palmeri

In the song "Hallelujah," Leonard Cohen writes, "Love is not a victory march, it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah." Love is a form of vulnerability and if you replace the word love with vulnerability in that line, it's just as true. From calling a friend who's experienced a terrible tragedy to starting your own business, from feeling terrified to experiencing liberation, vulnerability is life's great dare. It's life asking, "Are you all in? Can you value your own vulnerability as much as you value it in others?" Answering yes to these questions is not weakness: It's courage beyond measure. It's daring greatly. And often the result of daring greatly isn't a victory march as much as it is a quiet sense of freedom mixed with a little battle fatigue.

Fear is not a failure. It’s the way to deeper participation.

Transformation is a process of decay, of breaking down, and ultimately the growth of something new.

With courage and compassion, self-awareness brings opportunities to face those mortal fears, those dirty bodily truths, and those emotional frailities that tend to get washed over by the waking ego and its quest for positivity and bliss.

I claim my home. I claim my body. I claim my space. I allow myself to exist. I call myself into this moment. This body. This place. Tenderly. Forcefully. Decidedly.

I do not leave myself hanging. Floating. Floundering around.

I build home out of each act of self-love I commit. I build home each time I stick to the boundaries that I have set for myself. I build home each time I address myself with kindness.

I make a practice out of speaking to myself in ways that remind me of the power that I do have. I make a practice out of speaking to myself in ways that remind me that I always find the  solutions that I seek. I make a practice out of speaking to myself in ways that evoke my agency no matter the environment I am in.

I cast spells of self-actualization. So that I am not asleep to my own potential. So that I am not afraid of my own power. So that I am reminded of the promise that is deep within me, the promise to awaken through my efforts, through my work and through the connections that encourage me to heal.

No. 16: Enthusiasm by Sarah Palmeri

Twenty Seven, spray paint, acrylic paint, oil stick and charcoal on canvas, 64" x 60", 2017

Proper enthusiasm opens every door.

Improper enthusiasm is fueled by the desires of the ego. People often desire recognition, wealth, power or freedom from difficulty. Such desires can become so great that we will do anything to achieve them. Our energy rises as we widely pursue our goal, but this unruly and egotistical enthusiasm inevitably leads us into incorrect and imbalanced behavior and into misfortune.

Proper enthusiasm, on the other hand, is fueled by a devotion to attaining and expressing inner balance and inner truth. When your aim is not to influence others or to satisfy your ego but to follow the guidance of the Higher Power in all that you do, you acquire another kind of energy: a balanced and bottomless eagerness for living in step with what is right and good. In this there is true power and true grace.

Dearest Fear by Sarah Palmeri

Swamp Tour, 12 x 8.5 inches, oil on fashion magazine paper, 2017

Dearest Fear,

Creativity and I are about to go on a road trip together. I understand you'll be joining us, because you always do. I acknowledge that you believe you have an important job to do in my life, and that you take your job seriously. Apparently your job is to induce complete panic whenever I'm about to do anything interesting- and, may I say, you are superb at your job. So by all means, keep doing your job, if you feel you must. But I will also be doing my job on this road trip, which is to work hard and stay focused. And Creativity will be doing its job, which is to remain stimulating and inspiring. There's plenty of room in this vehicle for all of us, so make yourself at home, but understand this: Creativity and I are the only ones who will be making any decisions along the way. I recognize and respect that you are part of this family, and so I will never exclude you from our activities, but still- your suggestions will never be followed. You're allowed to have a seat, and you're allowed to have a voice, but you are not allowed to have a vote. You're not allowed to touch the road maps; you're not allowed to suggest detours; you're not allowed to fiddle with the temperature. You're not even allowed to touch the radio. But above all else, my dear old familiar friend, you are absolutely forbidden to drive.

Two Perspectives by Sarah Palmeri

TRU, Sarah Palmeri, 16 x 11 inches, oil on magazine spread, 2016

An excerpt from Form and Feeling by Susanne K. Langer:

The general disorder of our intellectual stock in trade in the realm of aesthetics is further aggravated by the fact that there are two opposite perspectives from which every work of art may be viewed: that of its author and that of its spectators (or hearers, or readers, as the case may be). One perspective presents it as an expression, the other as an impression. From the former standpoint one naturally asks: "What moves an artist to compose his work, what goes into it, what (if anything) does he mean by it?" From the latter, on the other hand, the immediate question is: "What do works of art do, or mean, to us?" This question is the more usual, even in serious theoretical thought, because more people are beholders of art than makers of it, and this counts for philosophers as well as any unselected public. Most aestheticians can treat the problem of artistic impression more authoritatively than that of expression; when they talk about the moods and inspirations of artists, or speculate on the sources and motives of any particular work, they leave the straight and narrow path of intellectual conscience and often let a quite irresponsible fancy roam.

Moon in Cancer

This is the most subjective position of the Moon. The Moon is "at home" in the sign of Cancer, as the Moon is the natural ruler of the sign. Moon in Cancer natives have a large potential to be able to get in touch with the feelings and moods of others. Often, they are quite wrapped up in themselves. Their memories of the past are outstanding, especially for all things emotional. Moon in Cancer people are never detached--they cling to things, their home, and people they care for. They seek out security and familiarity in all they do. They look for peace and quiet. Their attachment to all that is safe means they are a little leery of change. These peace-loving souls dislike superficiality in all of its forms. They are devoted and accommodating. The insecure ones accumulate things in an attempt to feel secure.

Because of their strong attachment to, and memory of, the past, others may complain that Moon in Cancer natives tend to whip a dead horse. They may dwell on hurts long after everyone else has moved on. When they feel they have been taken for granted (which may be often!), they don't always confront others directly. This is when they can use roundabout ways to get your attention. In fact, these natives, when they are insecure, can become quite manipulative. They can also be victims of habit. These people can have a hard time compartmentalizing their lives, simply because their watery Moon tends to know no boundaries. Sometimes, as a result, they may act irrationally.

One of the most delightful characteristics of Moon in Cancer people is their loony sense of humor. These people can be extraordinarily funny. Their moodiness can baffle others, but their unique outlook on life is something most people can appreciate. When treated with tenderness and understanding, Moon in Cancer natives return the favor with warmth and protection. Give them security, and you'll take the crabbiness out of the Crab, at least for awhile. These people are wonderfully dependable overall, despite their occasional mood swings. Make a friend of Moon in Cancer, and you will be taken care of for life

499 Conjunction Sun - Venus

Social relationships are extremely important to you. You are generally charming with an easy-going manner. It is generally quite important to you that you are personally popular, to come across in a pleasant way, and to be liked and appreciated. Sometimes, vanity is part of the package. Venus is a peace-making, harmony-loving planet, and those with Sun conjunct Venus do their best to seek peace and harmony. You are diplomatic and a veritable expert at smoothing over (and sometimes glossing over) problems. You are openhanded with others, tolerant and accepting. When expressed negatively, you can be superficial and two-faced, and you can be very much tied up with appearances--your own, and sometimes others'. You might be too agreeable, too pleasant (at the expense of honesty), and downright lazy at times. You have a fine eye for style and enjoy pleasing surroundings. You generally dress well and enjoy a certain amount of luxury. You are gracious, romantic, and sometimes romantically impulsive. You tend to rely on the power of attraction to bring people to you, rather than aggressively pursuing love interests. There is some vanity involved here--you are most attracted to people who express interest in you, or who respond well to your charms! You are not the type of person who overtly pursues people who appear to be indifferent to you. You are not competitive in the aggressive sense of the word, and you are not someone who loves a good chase. Instead, you work your charms and draw people to you. Your ability to attract others (Venus) is very much tied up with your ego (Sun). Because Venus rules all things feminine, both sexes with this aspect tend to be quite attractive.

177 Sextile Sun - Mars

You are enterprising and have powerful stores of energy that you can draw upon when needed. You respond to problems or challenges with a spirited and enthusiastic confidence that is admirable. You are naturally competitive, and this trait is generally well-received by others simply because it is unforced, unaffected, and sincere. You truly believe in fair play, and you seem to be in love with life. When you are expressing competitiveness and courage, it's easy for others to smile and accept these traits as positive ones rather than being rubbed the wrong way. You have good physical vitality. Although competitive, you are not naturally combative. You may enjoy sports or games that are competitive, but not violent. Breaking the rules of a competitive game is particularly upsetting to you. You are more able than most to control your desires, aggressions, and instincts. You know how to be fair, and you expect others to be fair. As such, sneaky behaviors, uncontrolled impulses, violence, and rage are offensive to you.

The Moon represents the emotional responses, unconscious pre-destination, and the self-image.

Needs and Wants by Sarah Palmeri

Sun in XII

You have a tendency to be introspective and need some space and seclusion in order to pull up your strength. You may avoid the spotlight, and if you do find yourself in a public role, you tend to hide your true self behind that role! Because your will is directed inwards, you need to find a path for yourself that allows you to "get away from it all" at least some of the time. Honor your need to be alone with yourself, but avoid over-identifying with your inner world to the point that you truly feel alone in a crowd. You shine when you serve others in some way. Your compassion sets you apart from others, but try to work with it rather than let your compassion work against you by reinforcing your own sense of loneliness.

-54 Square Sun - Moon

You have an internal struggle between your needs and your wants. You can lack focus and be indecisive as a result. Your ability to be objective is both an asset and a liability, simply because when you decide on one route, you are pulled in another direction at the same time. Something tugs at you, and you begin to question your stance. "But what if..." and "on the other hand..." are statements you can't help but make, and that might plague you. You are always aware of the opposing point of view and the other side of the coin.

119 Conjunction Sun - Mercury

Because your ego and your mind are aligned, you possess much mental energy. You are always in a position to think about what you want, and in many ways, this is an interruption of the will. You are highly intelligent with a great drive to communicate with other. You invest a lot of pride in your intellectual capacities. You may not always listen as well as you speak, however! You might be too busy thinking about what to say next. But you are very curious and although you enjoy expressing yourself, you usually don't dominate conversations completely. As far as studying or learning goes, you are better off reading the material than listening to a teacher. These traits come from a strong need to take an active role in communications. It is very hard for you to passively listen and absorb information.

Your opinions are usually strong and you are an independent thinker. You tend to be proud of your opinions and thoughts, and might easily get a bruised ego if you are not "heard", if your opinions are pushed aside or ignored, or if your opinions are criticized. You are expressive and possibly a very animated speaker. You are also very witty and others enjoy your playful and sometimes mischievous sense of humor.

The Sun represents vitality, a sense of individuality and outward-shining creative energy.

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, and Aries natives are the first to start--and the first to finish--whatever they set out to do. Aries is an active, energetic sign. People with Sun in Aries are direct, straightforward, and uncomplicated. They expect the same from others and are baffled when they don't always get it.

The body comes first with Aries. Sun in Aries people are natural athletes. At the very least, their natural inclination is to use their bodies to get things done. They're not given to long, drawn-out emotional moments; nor are they big on planning ahead. Instead, they live their lives simply. What is happening right now is most important to Aries. Impatience is a definite vice, and innovation is a huge strength. Aries love to start anything new, and they have trouble sitting still. They are pioneers in whatever they do, and there is a very basic quality of bravery in these people that is unmistakable! Aries generally know what they want, and they know the quickest route to getting it. They take shortcuts if they must, but generally, everything is aboveboard. Underhanded just isn't their style. Some Aries people are bold, but even the quieter ones are brave and even plucky in their own way. Independence is their birthright. Nothing gets them going more than a fresh slate, the promise of a new day, and a brand new start.

Aries enjoy a challenge, and Aries Suns are happiest when their lives are moving forward and active. There's a childlike quality to all Aries Sun people, and it's often quite charming.

She has a strong personality and an entrepreneurial spirit. She is ambitious and self-willed, stubborn, obstinate and tenacious.

Weaknesses: nervousness, impulsiveness, wastefulness, provoking nature, restlessness, and changeability.
